Yamaha’s YZF R1M 2015 affected by recall by Ohlins

Yamaha had earlier in April announced a recall for the Ohlins TTX36 series for its rear shocks. The initial recall had referred to the TTX RT, TTX GP and TTX36 MKII models and its shocks were sold as aftermarket accessories. But the new recall announced in Australia and Canada has suggested that the Ohlins TTX shocks were already installed as stock components on some of the bikes and are also likely to be affected.

A description by the Transport Canada and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said that the higher version of the R1 series comes with a standard and electronically controlled suspension from Ohlins.

The Canadian recall mentioned, “On certain motorcycles, the rear shock absorber may not have been manufactured correctly.” The recall added that the piston rod nut might have been tightened before the piston had the proper metal-to-metal contact. This could have led to the loosening of the nut that prevented proper suspension. Poor handling of such a condition can lead to crash causing injury or damage to property.

And now the correction says that the dealers will replace the rear shock absorbers with the one that is properly manufactured. The recall will be inspecting the R1Ms and is essential will replace the rear shock manufactured appropriately.
