Suzuki Recalls 2016 GSX-S1000 Models

It was all excitement and fun for Suzuki motorbike users until the manufacturer made a recall of the 2016 GSX-S1000 models in the American market. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in America enforced the recall, citing concerns with the model’s front brake caliper.

The safety body consequently published a press release. It’s believed that as much as 600 units of the motorbike had to be returned to the motor company. Suzuki motors complied with safety obligations by registering a defect notice with NHTSA. The error surfaced long after the superbike had entered into the market.

Engineers at Suzuki noticed a damaged seal groove on the brake piston cylinder that caused leakage of hydraulic fluid early November last year. An investigation into the defect revealed that the supplier of the breaking parts had performed some modifications. The change saw the application of color treatment enhance the look of the caliper body. This treatment method compromised the seals.

The official statement issued explained that some fluids may have penetrated into the piston cylinders in the braking system causing damage. The manufacturer took responsibility and offered a reprieve for the clients. Consequently, all Suzuki dealers have received the order to replace the entire front brake caliper with a non-modified spare. Only the affected Suzuki GSX-S1000A and GSX-S1000FA are affected by the recall.

The owners have also received an identification number, 2A48, for use in recognition. The Suzuki dealership in the US has also dedicated open customer service lines to handle inquiries and complaints. The National Highway Transport and Safety Authority can also issue further information on the recall. Bike owners should remember that all the costs of correcting the defect fall on the Suzuki dealer. Both the manufacturer and NHTSA hope the owners will comply so that the high safety standards remain.
