Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 2017 review – Here is what’s new about the beast

The Beast is back!

We don’t appreciate the things we have until it’s taken away, this certainly was the case with the Pulsar NS 200. The Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 was introduced in 2012 to compete against the Pulsar 220. The Pulsar NS 200 however, was discontinued in 2015 because its sales were low. Now the wait is over as Bajaj now has brought the Pulsar NS 200 back to life 2 years later.

The Pulsar NS 200 is a naked street fighter whose engine is derived from the KTM Duke 200. This is a Performance bike for Indian conditions which offers a good suspension setup and good mileage.

Design of the Bajaj Pulsar NS 200

While looks can be subjective there’s no doubt, this bike looks drop dead gorgeous! Apart from the new paint scheme the only way to differentiate the new Pulsar NS 200 from its predecessor is by a cosmetic changes. There is a new Belly pan which is included in the Pulsar NS 200 and the instrument console is now blue unlike the orange console in the previous Bajaj Pulsar NS 200.

The design aesthetic of the bike screams Bajaj Pulsar, which is not a bad thing. The bike’s design was iconic and it’s nice to see Bajaj realized that and kept the design same with a few refinements. The Fuel Tank looks muscular and gives an aggressive presence. The new graphics on the Pulsar NS 200 is beautiful, the glossy and matte color scheme goes well together and creates a sense of excitement.

Just like all new Pulsars, the NS 200 gets AHO (All-time Headlamp On) therefore, the headlamp switch is gone.

Dimensions –

The bike has a perimeter frame which is 2017 mm long, 804 mm wide, 1075 mm tall and offers a ground clearance of 167 mm. The wet weight of the bike is 153 kg, that’s heavier than the previous model.

Engine and Performance

The Pulsar NS 200 has a new BS4 compliant engine which is refined to give superior riding feedback and comfort level. The engine is similar to the KTM Duke 200 which pushes around 23.17 BHP of power and 18.3 Nm of Torque. The 200 cc single cylinder liquid cooled engine gives a mileage of 30-40 Kmpl. The engine remains the same as the previous model.

The bike is crazy fast. The new NS 200 goes from 0-60 in 3.9 sec and 0-100 in 10.3 sec with a top speed of 135 kmph.

Brake and Suspension

The bike comes with 37 mm telescopic suspension setup with anti-friction bush in the front and a Nitrox mono shock absorber for the rear suspension. It has petal disk brakes with a 280 mm disc in the front and a 230 mm disc on the rear wheel base.

Handling

The Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 is smooth to handle, the perimeter frame along with MRF tires offer good feedback to the rider and helps in steep corners. The new Pulsar NS 200 is a great ride now because of the new engine’s refinements and better feedback offered by the MRFs.

The Bike comes in three new refreshing colors – Graphite Black, Mirage White and Wild Red.

Verdict

The Pulsar NS 200 has the basics down, Good looks, Good Performance, Good Mileage and Good Riding Comfort. The Pulsar NS 200 is an amazing bike. This is the best naked street cruiser Bajaj has to offer in this price segment.
