Petrolheads and motorcycle enthusiasts alike need to brace themselves, as a sporting great,Eugene Laverty, with impeccable WSBK form returns to the World Superbike track, which softens the blow slightly as Stefan Bradl makes the move to MotoGP in the new year. After a brief hiatus from WSBK, Eugene Laverty has decided to return to the stage that made him famous after spending some time in MotoGP.
“I’m excited to return to Superbike with Aprilia and the RSV4, a bike with which I took ten wins and second place overall in the championship. I hope to be able to pick up where I left off with those results, thanks to the support of Aprilia and a fantastic team like Shaun Muir’s. Everything is in place for us to be competitive straight away”. – Eugene Laverty
Although Eugene left the WSBK arena with his head high, MotoGP has left its mark on the former podium finisher. According to Laverty, his experience levels and abilities have increased and he has this to say of his time with MotoGP “I’ve had a lot of success there, it was a great period. During my two years in MotoGP I have learned a lot; there’s been some difficult times, of course, but I have improved a lot as a rider and I’m looking forward to this next stage in my career.”
For Laverty, the time spent at MotoGP meant having to forego of podium finishes as he worked his way through the pack. Not quite the underdog, there was still hope for him to improve his game and make it to the podium finishes in a few years, however, the lure of the immediate satisfaction a champion feels is what ultimately swayed him to returning to his first big love.
Fans and superbike enthusiasts can expect to see Laverty at the head of the pack again, as he makes his return to the WSBK track. He will be part of the Milwaukee Aprilia team, sporting the RSV4. Fans can look forward to Laverty providing some much-needed competition for the likes of Rea, Davies, Sykes, and Van Der Mark, who seem to dominate the WSBK rankings.
